Memory Postcard workshops

Memory Postcard: Paper sculpture, photography and VR workshop

What familiar objects exist in your mind even when they no longer exist in reality?

Memory Postcard is a workshop for adults exploring memory and loss. We have been running these workshops since 2023 across a range of communities.

During this workshop participants use paper to build a piece of furniture from their past, then photograph and take home a postcard-sized print of their memory space. We provide templates as a guide to learn some sculptural papercraft and model making skills as well as photography and lighting skills.

We use photogrammetry to scan the paper sculptures and turn them into 3D digital objects. We then place all of the objects into virtual reality so participants can experience the miniatures as life-sized furniture using a VR headset..

Isobel Knowles and Van Sowerwine are collaborating artists who work with miniatures to recreate real and imagined spaces. We are developing a new virtual reality, creative documentary examining the experience of floods and the objects and spaces lost.
